BOT Guidelines

GUIDELINES FOR MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE MUSEUM OF FOOD IN AMERICA

STANDARDS OF MEMBERSHIP

Board members are expected to:

1. Show an active interest in the mission and programs of The Museum of Food in America

2. Utilize their skills and expertise to further the mission and programs of The Museum

3. Assist in activities, which will enhance the financial well being of The Museum

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. A board member is expected to make every effort to attend the three (3) meetings of the Board of Trustees held each year as well as the Annual Meeting of Members.

2. A board member is expected to make an annual financial contribution in accord with his or her annual pledge. The minimum annual expectation for a Trustee is a $5,000 unrestricted gift.

3. A board member is expected to make or personally assist The Museum in securing a leadership-level financial contribution to any future board-initiated campaign. The range for leadership-level giving will be based upon the established campaign goal.

4. A board member is expected to serve and actively participate on at least one (1) committee.

5. A board member is expected to use his/her influence or position in the community on behalf of The Museum.

6. A board member is expected to support special events by purchasing at least 2 tickets to our major annual event and supporting other special events whenever/wherever possible.

7. A board member is expected to suggest new members and prospective volunteers for The Museum.

WHAT THE BOARD MEMBER CAN EXPECT FROM THE MUSEUM

1. Assistance with projects from fellow board members and the professional staff of The Museum of Food in America.

2. Proper orientation.

3. Notification of meetings/minutes, etc.

4. Notification and invitation to all special events and activities.

5. Cooperation and guidance from volunteers and staff to assist wherever needed with materials, questions, etc.

6. Collaboration with volunteers on projects of mutual interest.

EVALUATION OF BOARD PERFORMANCE

1. Board members are elected to serve for a specific time period, subject to renewal, in accordance with the By-Laws of The Museum.

2. The Nominating committee is authorized to evaluate each board member’s performance annually, and to recommend continued participation or suggest resignation.
